PDF to Word

Loading tool…

Turn a PDF that contains text into a Word file you can edit. Paragraphs, headings, bullet points and pictures are rebuilt in your browser. Tables and columns are simplified, and a scanned PDF has no text to take. Nothing is uploaded.

Processed in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.

How it works

  1. Add one PDF that contains text (not a scan).
  2. Read the notes about this PDF, such as scanned pages, columns or Indian-language text.
  3. Choose whether each PDF page starts a new Word page, then select Create Word file.
  4. Download the .docx and check it in Word before you use it.

What this does and doesn't do

What it does
Reads the text and pictures in the PDF and writes a Word (.docx) file: paragraphs, headings and bullet points rebuilt from text size and position, bold and italic where the PDF shows them, and the pictures. Everything happens in your browser.
What it doesn't do
It is a best-effort rebuild, not an exact copy. Tables and columns are flattened into plain paragraphs, headings and lists are guesses that will sometimes be wrong, and fonts, colours and the page layout will differ. A scanned PDF has no text to take, so no Word file is made (our Android app, Intelligent PDF, has OCR, but it is not on Google Play yet). Indian-language text can come out with wrong or misplaced letters: the page warns you when it can tell, and it cannot tell you when the text is right. Password-protected PDFs have to be unlocked first. Your original file is never changed.

Questions about this tool

Is my PDF uploaded when I turn it into Word?

No. PDF to Word runs in your browser, on your own device. Your PDF is read and changed there, and never sent to our servers or to anyone else's.

What happens to my data?

Your PDF and the Word file made from it stay in your browser's memory while you work and are gone when you close or refresh the page. We do not save them, and this site uses no analytics or advertising cookies. Our host may keep ordinary server logs of page visits, which never include your files.

Is there a file size limit?

We do not set one. The work is done in your device's memory, so very large files can be slow or fail, especially on a phone. Text and pictures are read page by page, so a long PDF with many pictures takes longer and needs more memory. The page warns you above 50 MB for one file or 200 MB in total, and you can still carry on.

Does it change my original file?

No. You download a new file, and the original on your device is left exactly as it was.
